a transverse incision was made over the body of the middle phalanx and carried down throught the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Retractors were placed within the confines of the wound and the dorsum of the finger was denervated. the dorsal sensory nerve was identified and transected. the tendons were protected and preserved.

i have absolutely no clue.....the only thing i see is the excision of a neuroma from a nerve not the excision of the nerve? any help will be greatly appreciated
 
I would use 64999 based on the information you have given. There is no code in the transection or avulsion section that describes nerves of the hand. The other codes involve neuromas, neurofibromas, and neurolemmomas.
