Hello -

I am trying to find out what the newborn screening includes when seeing a newborn in the hospital after birth. Is the hearing test included with the inpatient hospital services or can it be billed separately using 92551 and V20.2?

Newborn Screenings requirements vary by state, so you will need to check with your state reqs to see the types of test is required. In CA, where I reside, there are two levels of test that may be performed; an OAE billed as 92558 or an ABR billed as 92586 (for commercial carriers, for Medi-Cal/Medicaid there are local codes that must be used). In CA it is required that an automated machine be used for either of these test. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss this further.
