Hi! New to OB billing and I have a question.

The doctor coded 99464 & 99462 new born visits. Three weeks later baby came in and he billed a new pt code (99203).

Then a month later baby came in for well check in which he coded 99391.

I am questioning if the 99203 is correct. Since he did new born visits in the hosp, I am thinking it is not a new pt visit.

Any advice would be welcomed~

Thank you!!

You are correct. According to CPT Guidelines an Established patient is one who has received professional services from the physician/qualified health care professional or another physician/qualified health care professional of the exact same specialty and subspecialty who belongs to the same group practice, within the past 3 years. You will need to convert the new patient code to an established patient code.
