Hi there-I am a provider educator, and have a lot of experience with multiple specialties...except heme/onc. I just took on this department and wouldn't you know I have a provider who just doesn't understand E/M coding.

I usually have a good supply of clinical examples to draw on to help describe the HPI element, but I don't have anything for this specialty. It becomes a road block in conversation since he will just say 'well oncology is different.' He gives me a long paragraph telling me all the excercise the patient is getting, and how he is kayaking and such. I understand that he is explaining that the patient is doing well, but he's not understanding that he still needs to get that into HPI language.

Does anyone have any tips, resources, or other advice on getting into this specialty?

Thanks in advance!
