Hi, I work for an ASC and we are considering doing our anesthesia group's coding in house. I'm a CPC and have coded for 10 years, but never done anesthesia. Can anyone suggest some resources or classes that they found helpful?
The Relative Value Guide has a lot of information regarding coding Anesthesia. Does this group use CRNA's? Are they medically directed? The modifiers will be different and so will how the claims are sent out. Get familiar with the anesthesia record they use. Is it a paper record or is it online? How do they document one lung vent, CP bypass, TEE and lines? Get online and find some carrier guidelines. They all have guidelines for billing anesthesia.
