Hello,
I am wondering if others agree that this code is inappropriate to include in the code ranges in the guideline and parenthetical notes and if this is a mistake on the part of AAPC. Please see code description and an example of the parenthetical notes in question below. The placement of 90480 in the code range is what concerns me. I want to see if anyone has additional information or agrees the code range is incorrect. Thank you!

▶Report vaccine immunization administration codes (90460, 90461, 90471-90474, 90480) in addition to the vaccine and toxoid code(s) (90476-90759, 91304, 91318, 91319, 91320, 91321, 91322).◀

▶(Do not report 90460, 90461 in conjunction with 91304, 91318, 91319, 91320, 91321, 91322, unless both a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 [SARS-CoV-2] [coronavirus disease {COVID-19}] vaccine/toxoid product and at least one vaccine/toxoid product from 90476-90759 are administered at the same encounter)◀

▶Codes 90476-90759, 91304, 91318, 91319, 91320, 91321, 91322 identify the vaccine product only. To report the administration of a vaccine/toxoid other than SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus disease [COVID-19]), the vaccine/toxoid product codes (90476-90759) must be used in addition to an immunization administration code(s) (90460, 90461, 90471, 90472, 90473, 90474). To report the administration of a SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus disease [COVID-19]) vaccine, the vaccine/ toxoid product codes 91304, 91318, 91319, 91320, 91321, 91322 should be reported with the corresponding immunization administration code (90480).

The way I understand this, 90480 is just for the administration of the COVID vaccine only. So it has to be reported with the code for the appropriate COVID Vaccine product. The vaccines from categories 90476-90759 are to report vaccine products for other immunizations, COVID is in its own category which is why it's outside of that code range.
The COVID Vaccine product I found as an example, 91322 which reports what vaccine product was administered, includes a "Code Also Vaccine administration 90480" note.
