I just started billing for a NP who assists an Ortho in surgeries and I'm not gonna lie, I'm winging it.....(I have billing experience just not Ortho). My question is that I know I need to bill the same charges/DX as the surgeon and I just discovered that I should be using the modifier AS and not an 80  my question is that most all of the cases the surgeon is billing code 20985 (computer assisted surgical nav) I know she will not get paid for this and 37202 (transcatheter therapy) and she will not be paid for this either, my question then is should I even bother billing for these or only bill the procedures I know will be paid?

Thank you!

You can only bill for surgeries for an assist that allows an assistant surgeon. Medical necessity statments by the surgeon are necessary to support those Sx where they "may" be allowed.

You will need to refer to a source that tells you which ones are allowed or maybe allowed, try the RBRVU Fee Schedule under the column for Asst Sx.
