On October 14 we go live with our physicians new on-site lab. We will performing a number of CLIA waived tests and some non-waived tests. I have only billed for an Independent Laboratory, in which all claims went in under the Medical Director. I am curious on how physician laboratories bill. Do we bill under the ordering physician, even if the ordering physician is not on site, and what about labs order from an outside physician?

Any insite is much appreciated.

Did you ever get a response to this thread? I have the same issue going on here at work, but I work for a PPO organization that is seeing duplicate claim billing for labs. Both the lab and the Ordering physician are billing the same Path and lab codes.
THanks!

Haven't gotten a response on this yet. But I would think that the contract between the Ordering Physician and Reference Lab should dictate who bills. Sorry.
