Please help - I have patient that nine weeks ago took a preg test in our office the result was positive. Now she is returned for her first OB visit. Is this visit charged or does it fall into total global. Thank you for your help.

We now require all patients to have confirmation of a positive preg test before scheduling a "first OB appt". An extensive amount of time is spent during this appt for pregnancy education for new and established patients alike. Therefore, our patients initial first OB visit begins their Global OB care and we do not bill out a separate E&M.

I know many would state that for a new patient an initial E&M would be billed. However, regardless of whether our patient is new, established, or previous OB patient-they are all asked the same history questions to begin OB charting/prenatal paperwork for each new pregnancy.
