Having difficulty coding the following:

Incisional Biopsy of Abdominal Wall Mass

Per the operative report the initial intention was to perform a core needle sampling. The tissue was excessively friable and a satisfactory sample could not be obtained and converted to an open biopsy. A 1.5 cm skin incision was created. By sharp dissection using both 15 blade as well as small dissecting scissors fragments of underlying dark reddish friable tissue was excised.

When I look for biopsy of the abdomen all I find is the needle biopsy. Am I on the right track looking at codes in 114xx or 116xx range depending on the path report?

HELP!

good evening,

I would wait until path report came back. You may also wish to clarify with the surgeon, how deep this biopsy went, skin, subcutaneous tissue or deeper. Once you can clarify this information, it will probably be easier to identify the procedure. If he incised, removed, it may be an excisional biopsy. I hope this helps, and doesn't confuse you.
