Patient went to the ER three days ago for arm laceration. Today, he came back to the ER for dressing change because the patient does not have a PC doctor. He will return in 6 days.

What is the question?

If sutures were placed or not the scenario is the same. If today was a simple dressing change and nothing else was done or required and the same occurs on the return visit in 6 days or if sutures are removed in 6 days you cannot bill for any services other than the initial treatment 3 days ago.

The only case where a visit could be charged is if the wound becomes infected and requires debridement or such then you can charge the appropriate visit.

Some simple lac repairs do not have a global so the return visits could be charged by the ER physician if this is the case. The facility can always charge even if the physician cannot charge. Remember global does not apply to the facility. So an ER facility charge can be generated even though no professional charge is billed.
