Hi all!

I have a doozy. Doctor wants to do a Robotic Urethrectomy - patient has Adenocarcinoma of Urethra and doctor feels best bet is going to be surgical removal of urethra. Since there is apparently only 25 cases known previously, I'm assuming I have to go unlisted code, but I don't even have the slightest clue what the benchmark would be. Patient is female, for the record. I'm thinking 53430 will come into play somewhere, but I can't find anything for the removal.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!!

From coders desk reference description of procedures:
53210-53220

The physician removes the urethra and creates an opening between the bladder and skin for drainage of urine. The physician makes a slightly curved, suprapubic (Cherney) incision down to the ureter and bladder. The bladder is opened and the urethral orifice is circumcised and usually tied off with sutures. Tumors of the urethra are removed by partial or complete urethrectomy or by electric current (fulguration). If the bladder has been opened, it is closed in two layers or more. Report 53210 for females; use 53215 for male-specific procedure. Report 53220 for removal of malignant tumor from the urethra.
