My pathologists just started doing flow cytometry and I need some guidance on what to do when the cytometry and IHC stains are done on same specimen. How am I to tell if both should be billed, which to bill or if the IHC stains listed are not all included in the cytometry panel? Do I bill those stains as 88342/88341 and the cytometry for all those duplicated in both procedures? If cytometry is negative, does that warrant the pathologists to go ahead and do the IHC stains? And if billing both is warranted, does the XU modifier now get applied to the IHC stains? ANY feedback on this will be greatly appreciated. I have researched this topic but still haven't come across any clear answers. Thanks.
