Any idea where the conference will be held in 2017? So hoping it isn't Vegas again!!
In my own opinion, while the locations are fun, I go to conference for the learning experience and usually don't venture out (ok, the year it was in Hawaii-I definitely ventured out)!
Another consideration is finding a venue that will accommodate the crowd size we have. There have to be sufficient hotels, affordable air and transportation, etc. I'm sure AAPC would entertain other locations but it would then raise the cost of conference. It is unbelievable what the cost of even a simple can of soda or bottle of water costs for a conference.

I'm trying to find the link to the thread but someone had asked and Pam posted a link about 2017 being at the Rio and 2018 would be Orlando again.
After a painful internet search I found the info. It's listed in the 2016 exhibitor prospectus. Bottom of page 8

I hope that there will be consideration to room blocks at other than the Rio. I would happily pay Uber $6 or a $10 cab ride to stay somewhere other than the Rio. Last conference, our experience was horrible--no hot water the entire stay, smoke pouring in our room from the suite next door, broken gym equipment, mediocre food and terrible shuttle service.
We were in Vegas last week (10/6) and booked tickets to see Rock of Ages which is held at the Rio. I travel extensively and don't spook easily but I was pretty anxious being at the Rio. It's thick with smoke. The casino was fairly deserted and while the waiter was attentive, he looked completely depressed to be working there. At one point, he jumped on a little stage and half hardheartedly performed a karaoke song. The entire scene screamed desperation. We grabbed a bite to eat at their sports bar and while the portion was huge, it was greasy. After the show (which was great), I witnessed a girl having some sort of reaction to what was presumably drugs in the bathroom--I offered to get help and her friend said she just needed to "come down" and would be fine.
I've attended several National conferences and have no problem with the Coronado Springs, either of the Gaylord's we've stayed at in Orlando and Nashville, the Paris/Bally's or any of the other venues. Hopefully, because the Rio is owned by Caeser's, there will be an option to stay at another property and commute to the conference.

I agree with Chandra (thanks for the explanation)....
I would love to see a National or Regional conference in Washington, DC (thought I would slide that in) (LOL)
I have heard and seen a lot of complaints about the Las Vegas conferences being held in places where there is a lot of smoke around. As an asthmatic, it would not be very safe for me to be in that environment. The one time that I have had the opportunity to attend a national conference was when it was scheduled for Nashville and it flooded that year so we were moved to Jacksonville FL last minute. I do have to say under the circumstances, the AAPC did a great job, but can't we give LV a break and maybe give Nashville another chance at national? I have to pay for my own bills to attend (which I'm sure many others do too now days) so mixing up locations for the benefit of other members or maybe since the membership has gotten so large provide several national conferences in addition to the regionals???
I have attended conference twice in Vegas, once in Orlando, once in Long Beach and once in Seattle. I was going to try to go when it was in Nashville but was not able to put together the funds at the time. I can get time off from my job to attend, but they do not reimburse for any of the costs to attend. I do not prefer Vegas but will be attending again this year since it is harder for me to come to the east coast and the airfare and hotel options are less expensive. I have done a map search and see that the Gold Coast is within sight of the RIO and is listed as a .3 mile walk. If the weather is bad or the environment does not feel safe I figure I can get an Uber or Lyft between locations. The Gold Coast is about $45 a night in case anyone is looking for another option! See you all in Vegas!
