Can anyone help me? I got audit an was told that I could not code for a MI that is within the 4 weeks that is a NSTEMI Type 2, that the physician stated the patient returned to the ER and was admitted. Physician did tests and stated the sign and symptoms patient was having was from the NSTEMI type 2 from 2 weeks ago. Should I have coded that or not. My lead stated I can not code that NSTEMI on type 1 within the 4 weeks.-

It's hard to comment on the coding without seeing the documentation on which it is based, but in the ICD-10 guidelines, section I.C.9.e., the 4-week time frame during which you continue to report the acute MI applies only to the type 1 MI. As I read the guidelines, you wouldn't apply that rule to other types of MI.
