I have a patient with multiple injuries from an MVA and the narrative says "... patient was driving her car SB on (name of interstate) when she stuck another vehicle. Patient was a restrained driver and was not ejected from her car..."
There is no information as to what type of "vehicle" she ran into but I assumed that since it was on the highway, it had to be another 'motorized' vehicle, and went with V49.40XA Driver injured in collision with unspecified motor vehicles in traffic accident, initial encounter. Now I'm being told that I should have coded V46.5XXA Car driver injured in collision with other nonmotor vehicle in traffic accident, initial encounter instead. So now I'm trying to find the definition of a "nonmotor vehicle" as listed under V46- to figure out why that would be used in this case.
I'll take any thoughts or opinions on this one - I'm at a total loss.
