Good morning, all. I could use your advice as I have not seen this before in our practice.
My physician did a "Bilateral gelenohumeral joint multipotential cellular implantation under ultrasound guidance". He billed this as a joint injection, 20611. Is this correct? This is how part of the report reads:
"The posterior portion of the right glenohumeral joint was identified using ultrasound. A focused examination of the right glenohumeral joint was then done using ultrasound. Under ultrasound guidance a 22-gauge 3 1/2” needle was atraumatically introduced and advanced into the right glenohumeral joint ensuring the needle tip avoided bony prominences, blood vessels or other vulnerable structures.
Following negative aspiration, a mixture of 0.5 cc of 0.9% injectable sodium chloride with 0.5 cc of multi-potential cellular matrix was implanted. A total of 1 cc of the mixture was used.
An identical procedure was then done on the left side."
So, is 20611 the correct CPT code to use for this procedure? What code(s) would be used for the injectable?
Thank you for your assistance.
