I am new to the billing and coding and I currently work for an independent laboratory. We often have multiple wound pcr samples that come in from the same patient on the same day. However, I am having a hard time getting Medicare to pay for more than one sample due to their mue's. I have tried using different etiology diagnosis codes and location modifiers as well. Any insight would be entirely helpful. The codes we currently send are 87486, 87651, 87640, 87641, 87481 x3, 87150 x12, 87500, & 87801 x3. All codes are sent with a 59 modifier. We can get the first one paid and any other ones are denied as frequency and even after an appeal they are still denied as not covered. I appreciate any insight! Thank you
