If a surgeon performs surgery on spine, right knee and left knee during the same operative session, three operative notes, does the multiple reduction rule apply to all codes billed or will each body part get paid separately.
Multiple procedure reductions apply to all eligible procedures performed by the same provider on the same date of service, regardless of body part. The idea is that the cost to the facility or provider is reduced because the patient is only checked in and prepped once, the operating room is only used once, the provider only scrubs once, etc.
