Hello!

I work in an office alone and I need to bounce this conversation off of other professionals. I understand the rationale behind the multi-procedure discount, but have questions about how the discount applies to non-contracted providers who do not have a negotiated fee schedule with the payer.

1) Can non-contracted providers challenge the commercial payer multi-procedure discount or are we agreeing to the terms and conditions of the patient's policy when we agree to treat the patient (even when treatment is emergent)?

2) What are your office policies on applying the multi-procedure discount for both emergent and elective procedures? Do you balance bill the patient or adjust the discount as an insurance adjustment?

I appreciate your time in reading this as well as for offering your feedback.

Thank you!
