We have a MRI unit at our practice and there is come confusion on how we need to bill something out.

Our doctors order an MRI for the knee which this is for the pt having a TKA done.

So the MRI is taken and then sent to the vendor and they get the measurements for the implant that is needed and then our drs do the surgery.

Can we bill out the full MRI or with a TC mod?

Or is this included in with the surgical package?

The vendor says we can bill out the full MRI.

Has anyone else had this come across this before????

Thanks for all of your help!!!!!

As far as the MRI inclusive to your surgery I dont feel it should be. We do xrays prior to surgery for total joints and bill for them. We have our own MRI and the scan is read by a radiology group, so we bill for the TC (technical componet only). If you provide the entire service for the MRI (scan & read) the I would bill for the whole thing. :)
