If a patient has a "pacemaker in situ, which is maintaing normal function," would you give credit in the HPI under modifying factors for this?

Sure, assuming the patient is being seen for a cardiovascular issue. The pacemaker is helping (or at least preventing the symptoms from worsening.)

If the patient is going to their PCP for an URI then I would count the pacemaker as past medical history.

Thanks Mike! The patient was seen for afib by cardiology. I just wanted a second opinion on this one.
