I have surgeons who are assisting each other in Ambulatory Surgery Centers. Can the 80 modifier be used in ASC Billing? They are doing this more and more. This is the first one that has been kicked out.

ASC modifier

The modifier 80 is not approved for ASCs, because it deals with the work actually performed by the physicians. The physicians can bill for their services and use 80 for an assistant,
but the ASC only bills globally for the procedlure performed.

Are you coding for the physician's services that were performed in an ASC or are you coding for the facility? If you're coding for the physician was was the reason for denial?
