can someone clarify; a patient had a heart/cath placed for a atrioventricular block and about 6 weeks later came in for a OV for a fib. Would mod 24 be appropriate?? The procedure does have a 90 day global.
What do you mean by 'had a heart/cath placed for AV block? A pacemaker may be placed for AV block depending on the degree of block but It's not entirely clear what procedure was performed? If it had a 90-day global then modifier 24 is appropriate. You have a new problem unrelated to the initial problem and procedure.
Agreed, and would just add that the modifier choice has to be based on the documentation of the services provided, not just on the diagnosis. If the documentation supports that the services during that visit were unrelated to the post-operative care for the procedure, then the modifier would be appropriate.
