Is there a modifier for an emergency visit in a physicians office other than ET (Emergency Services) that an office should use?

There is no modifier but you can add code 99058 and many carriers will pay an additional amount, but the visit must disrupt the regular office routine and the documentation needs to reflect this.

Debra is right on this and it must truly be an emergency and disrupt the flow of the regular office routine. Not all carriers reimburse for this code (they should, IMO!), so you might want to do some initial investigation.

And this is the correct code for a family practice office? you wouldn't use 99213,ET?

yes this is for physician office. The information I have on the ET modifier is that it appends to dental procedures only. But maybe that is just for railroad Medicare.
