Our physician did a medial and lateral menisectomy and also a synovectomy on the right knee. We billed 29880, 29876-59. UHC is bundling the 29876 with the 29880. We checked Code-X and Code-X has the 29876 as not included in the global service package and the CCI has a 1 next to it which is why we added the 59 modifier. Is this bundled or do we need to appeal it?

The knee has only 3 compartments. 29880 is for medial and lateral compartments. 29876 represents 2 or more compartments which would be 4. If synovectomy was in patellofemoral then report 29875-59. Just so you know carriers are starting to bundle synovectomy with menisectomy as they have the chonroplasty (29877). Be prepared to appeal but you really should get paid.
