What timeframe constitutes an OLD tear versus a CURRENT tear?

Old Vs New Injuries
I have really not been able to find a black and white answer to this question either. I have wokred in ortho for 4 years now, coding. I have always heard other coders use a 1 year rule of thumb. If it's a year or older I typically code a 700 code, if it's newer and the note documents the time of accident and accident code I will go with the 800/E-Code and place the DOI in the chart.

Acute vs Chronic
We are from a large Ortho group and the rule we follow is Acute is up to 3 to 4 months anything after that is Chronic.
