My provider is a contracted Medicare provider, however we are not contracted with any Medicare Advantage plan. Therefore, all Medicare Advantage claims are processed as out of network claims. We have a patient with financial hardship that we are considering giving a waiver/discount to. I contacted the plan to inquire if the policy had any restrictions or instructions for doing as such. All I was told was that the policy allowed the out of network provider to bill the member over the maximum allowed fee, which doesn't answer my question.
To give a waiver/discount to a Medicare Advantage member, should we follow the CMS guidelines for financial hardship or are we allowed to discount the member's deductible/co-insurance without any questions asked?? TIA!
