Wiki Medical Management of Post-Op Total Joint Pt

I am being asked by a total joint surgeon if he can bill for hospital days post op with modifier -24 when he orders blood sugars, adjusts insulin dosage and monitors other medical issues such as medications for total joint replacement patients. I don't know if this is significant enough to bill a 99231-99233 with modifier -24. I think it's not.

Any feedback you can provide (or carrier bulletins to support my opinion) would be very helpful!

If he did the actual surgery, then this is part of the post operative care management.
