Pt had an elective medical termination at another office 2 weeks ago. She did not return to them for follow up and saw our doctor for her annual exam. Dr wants to charge a separate visit for the follow up but what dx can I use. Is z33.2 still appropriate? she is not having complications but doctor is checking her hcg levels.
 
If its more than 10 days since the voluntary pregnancy termination you may be able to bill a separate E&M, however it really depends on how much above and beyond the annual exam the extra evaluation steps were. Would this be able to stand alone from the well visit? If you dropped all the components of an annual exam would you still have enough for an E&M? If not you may just want to limit the billing to the extra lab test unrelated to a normal physical exam.
