Good morning,
I have been questioning this lately. The patient is being seen for iron deficiency anemia. Taking iron (maybe OTC or script not sure). Labs reviewed. Keep taking iron at current dose. See you in 6 months.

Would this be stable, chronic or poorly controlled? Per AMA a patient who is not at treatment goal is not stable even if the condition has not changed and there is no short-term threat to life or function.

I feel stable chronic is correct as the patient has no other issues and will not follow/up for 6 months. Any advice appreciated.

if the provider does not state that the problem is "poorly controlled", I would not count it as such.
with no other information and the instruction to continue what they are doing, I would consider it Low MDM (if this is the only problem being addressed).

The provider would (presumably) have increased the dosage of iron had the patient not been at goal. In addition you would expect they would want to see them before 6 months for further labs.
Overall, MDM is low.
