Is there any written literature on what is condisered a "New Problem"? I have always assumed it was either a condition the patient has never had before or a condition the provider has never treated the patient for?
However, one of our physicians questioned if the patient had an URI last year and has another one this year, would that be a new problem? My theory is that these are acute conditions not chronic. So it would be a new problem. If the patient had them frequently and related to COPD, Asmtha or Emphysema, I would consider it not a new problem.
