MD performs bil selective renals , selective SMA, selective Celiac trunk with sever stenosis.

He then 'selectively engages the left subclavian artery to ensure patency and appropriation for possible angioplasty of the celiac trunk from the left arm area. The angiography of the left subclavian artery was performed."

Is this left subclavian angio billable?

Thanks!

Subclavin can not be billed for patency. However, if the doctor dictates result of stenosis/occlusion in the subclavin and has to move to a diffrent access site then you can code for the angiography of the subclavin.

The physician is trying to find a good route for the catheter and balloon (like trying to find a road wide enough for a big truck), this is roadmapping and should not be billed separately.

HTH :)

Just for the record, I do not necessarily disagree with Misty. It depends on the degree/quality/quanity of the documentation.
