In the same facility can anesthesia be billed as some rooms being medically directed and other rooms as CRNA independently performed? For example 15 rooms running. Rooms 1-4 directed by a physician, rooms 5-8 directed by a physician and rooms 9-15 CRNA independently performing. I would appreciate your input.

Check to see if these rooms are being run in an opt-out state.

If they are in an opt-out state, the answer is very likely yes. Of course, applicable payers rules & state laws will and do apply. It's not often seen, but there are times when the CRNA and the MDA act as equals and Medical Direction is not applied.

No dual charges; anesthesiologists will bill using AA modifier while the CRNA will use QZ modifier.
