When you are looking in the ICD-9 book to find a code, and underneath the code it states " use additional code to identify manifestation" and it will list a couple of examples.....it was my understanding that these examples were not a complete list and that there could potentially be more than what is listed, but the book would be 3 times the size if they had to list all of them, however, I cannot seem to substantiate this in the coding guidelines.
Does anyone have thoughts on this? Am I wrong?
I am looking specifically at coding 250.70 + 459.81. The diabetes code says circulatory disorders and 459.81 is a circulatory disorder, but it is not listed underneath the 250.70 as an example of manifestation.
How do I code this appropriately?
Thanks
