Good Morning,

One of my physicians has scheduled a "Ludloff Bunionectomy" to be performed in the OR. I am new to orthopaedic coding, and am confused as to which code to use, especially since I do not have an operative report yet. We need to code this procedure prior to it being performed in order to get prior authorization from the insurance company. i would appreciate any help in this matter.

I found an old AAPC thread on something very similiar to this and back and forth members were saying either 28296 or 28292/28306. Your best bet would be to take both descriptions to your physician to find out which procedure(s) best fit what his/her plan is. I did that a lot when I coded ortho and wasn't quite sure. Good luck with it!
