We have a Locum coming to cover in December and April. What do I need to do, as the billing manager, to have this physician ready to go? He has applied for his DE license and hospital priviledges. Malpractice is covered by the staffing company. Will I bill under the physician he is covering for with the appropriate modifier? Help!

Here's the link to CMS information in the Internet Only Manual: http://www.cms.gov/manuals/downloads/clm104c01.pdf - start on page 69. Most insurance companies will follow these guidelines (file under the regular physician with a Q6 modifier) but you should check your contracts or call them to find out how they want claims filed.
