Morning!

Was wondering if anyone out there has come across the scenario of a Lithotripsy in the Urethra. Doc did NOT go into the Kidneys or Ureter and the only time he was in the Bladder was to basket the fragmented stones that were retropulsed there from the Urethra.

52353 says this is a cystourethroscopy, with ureteroscopy and/or pyeloscopy; with lithotripsy (ureteral catherization is included)
So I was looking at this, doesn't the semi colon under 52351 seperate the discriptor and not the comma? If the semi colon is the case, then the ureterscopy and/or pyeloscopy has to be performed for this code and that is not what the Doc did.

To make matters more confusing, when I look under lithotripsy in the index of the CPT and then find "Urethra", it takes me to 52353, and so does the discriptor "with Cystourethroscopy"

Our head coder is wanting to put a modifier 52 on code 52353 and I disagree, my Doc wants to use 52315 "removal of foreign body; complicated". I think he did more work then that.

Aprreciate any help I can get.
