Wiki Liability for old charges

Does anyone know how far back we are required to keep patient's accounts - as far as codes used and payments made? We are purging tickets from our system and we're not sure what our liability is for tickets as old as 2001 and 2002.

7-10 years depending on your practice. Law I believe is 7...we have purged 2003 and later this year, so your 2001/02 should be safe to destroy.
