I have been asked by one of my physicians about whether a code exists for harvesting a saphenous vein for bypass use from the contralateral leg. The code states that harvesting the vein is inclusive to the bypass codes but does not mention any laterality. In my opinions, laterality (contralateral or ipsilateral) should not matter. Therefore, there is nothing to bill as an additional code when it is harvested from the contralateral leg. However, in an attempt to do my due diligence, I am seeking anyone's thoughts or prior experience on this. Thanks
