Physician performed a laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy. However, during the procedure there was a laceration of the inferior epigastric artery. Doctor then performed laparotomy to repair the injury.
I know that normally you would bill only the open procedure and not the laparoscopy. However, since it was to repair a complication from the surgery, I am thinking that we would not bill for the repair. Instead, we would bill the laparoscopy (maybe with modifier 22) and not bill out the laparotomy.
Any feedback?
