I have a question, I have a pt who came in to be seen for a diarrhea problem, has had this issue for quite some time. Question is, we ordered multiple test for pt and stool, non of which are done in house.. is it appropriate to attach a lab fee for each specimen/test that is ordered? Or can I only use one? It would be the same diag for all test, would that matter? Txs for all your help

oh? we always charge a lab fee, we hv to collect the sample and hv the lab pick it up... so we pay for that service... so it is appropriate to charge a fee.. If we sent them else where and did not collect the sample or anything then of course we would not charge a fee... So question still stands... anybody hv an idea?

Well since you pay for the transfering I assume you code as 99000.

99000
Handling and/or conveyance of specimen for transfer from the physician's office to a laboratory

the layed description say...
This code is adjunct to basic services rendered. The physician reports this for the handling and/or conveyance of a specimen from the physician's office to a laboratory.

So since it says A specimen I would think you could charge per each one.
