patient had open laceration knee dislocation w/ road rash due to motorcycle accident
doc did scope to eval knee joint, flushed with saline to egress capsule out of knee joint which was due to open laceration/dislocation, this is all he did w/ scope.

would you code 29871 or just 29870?

going by the information you provided it sounds like 29871, there was no biopsy

The op note reads:

"I made anterolateral portal and inserted cannula into this protal and then flushed the knee out with 6L of normal saline, this was able to egress out the capsular defect medially"

he then closed - no biopsy- nothing else in there.
