Hello Everyone:

I'm new to orthopedics coding and billing.

I have a provider that administered 2 cc of Kenalog. He coded it as

J7325 one unit.

Medical assistant confirm this is a Single/One Syringe of 6ml.

How should this be coded??

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
MF

You just have to do the math. J7325 is one unit per milligram (mg)

1 cubic centimeter (cc) = 1 milliliter (mL)

You need to know the strength of the drug - how many milligrams/milliliter (mg/mL) - to finish your calculation.

Example:
this isn't the actual dosage - I'm just using 10 as a round number for illustration. I don't know how many mg/mL are in the vial for that drug

If it's 10 mg/ML and 2 mL were administered, then you'd have 20 mg total. (10 mg * 2 mL). If the J code is one unit per milligram, then you'd have 20 units.
