We had a patient call into the pager on a Saturday (outside of office hours). The patient was having a lot of pain and had been out of the Lyrica he had been taking His refill had not yet come in the mail. After a lengthy phone discussion our doctor on call agreed to meet the patient in the office to dispense samples we had of the medication to last him until his medication came from the mail in pharmacy.
The doctor drove to the office on Saturday where the patient's wife met her at the office and she gave her the samples to give to patient.
The doctor wants to know what she can bill for. I am not aware that this is a billable service. I think this is just a practice in good medicine. Pelase let me know, and also if I can reference anything to back it up!
