We have a patient in need of an interpretor and we have a service that can provide us with an interpretor, my question is....is there a code for this and does insurance cover it? Thanks!

Cost of doing business

This is a requirement by federal standards and no, you cannot bill the patient or the patient's insurance for this. It is a cost of doing business.

However ... if the encounter takes a significantly longer period of time, and that time is documented, you may be able to use the prolonged service codes in addition to your basic E/M.

Hope that helps.

That's right...I believe it has been deleted.. however, you can use it and it is payable for WC in my state. Usually many WC patients require interpretors and we get paid on it all the time.
