Is it compliant to code R10.9 Unspecified abdominal pain with A08.4 Viral intestinal infection, unspecified?
Though not every viral intestinal infection causes abdominal pain I tend to think it is an inherent condition and as such should not be coded.
Pt. co abdominal pain, FD was viral enteritis

If the documentation clearly states that the viral enteritis was the reason for the abdominal pain, then you would not code the symptom. If there is a question about this (e.g. that the provider suggested that abdominal pain might be related to a separate issue or perhaps the provider is ordering some additional diagnostic tests to rule out other possible sources of the pain) then it would be appropriate to code the symptom in addition to the final diagnosis.
