Good morning,
I work for Optum at this time and I need to get some experience to be able to post for a coding position. I am wondering if doing the
coding practicode through AAPC would be a good way to get that experience. Has anyone done this, and if so can you let
me what to expect. Thank you for your input. Sharon

While working as a medical biller, I passed the CPC exam thereby gaining the CPC-A certification. I finished the practicode program within a couple of months in order to have the 'A' removed from my CPC cert. The practicode is beneficial but also very time consuming and dry. I doubt that many employers give a lot of credence to it's completion. My advice would be to pass the CPC exam if you haven't already. Then do whatever you need to in order to expedite the removal of the apprentice status. In my opinion, this would open more doors than solely completion of the practicode.

It counts as education but not experience. It does help you practice coding so that when you take pre-employment screenings you can pass.
