I need some clarification on the instrument codes used by my doctors. 22840 and 22842.
Code 22840 Posterior non-segmental instrumentation (eg, Harrington rod technique, pedicle fixation across 1 interspace, atlantoaxial transarticular screw fixation, sublaminar wiring at C1, facet screw fixation) (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)
Code 22842 Posterior segmental instrumentation (eg, pedicle fixation, dual rods with multiple hooks and sublaminar wires); 3 to 6 vertebral segments (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)
What is confusing me is if the doctor lists the procedure as L4-5 is that considered 1 "interspace" or is it two vetrebral segments?? There is also no code for two segments??
