If anyone has experience with Involuntary psychiatric admissions please advise. At times when a patient is admitted under the ITA they are not automatically admitted as an Inpatient until it is determined that the patient has a need for further treatment.
The problem that I am having right now is that the preauthorization was given when the patient first arrived but was not actually admitted until 48 hours later. The insurance co. does not want to pay because the auth starts 2 days before the actual admit, for example: Authorization dates 01/01/11 - 01/15/11, actual admit was on 01/03/11 when it was determined that it was medically necessary for the patient to recieve further treatment.
